Overview
The Eurotech Delta 1536 is a twin-spindle twin-turret CNC turning center from Eurotech Srl of Amaro, Italy, designed to maximize turning productivity on medium-diameter rotational components through simultaneous four-turret cutting cycles. The Delta series represents Eurotech's answer to the high-volume turning cell: by combining two opposed main spindles with two independent turrets — and the ability to engage all four cutting units simultaneously in balanced machining — the Delta 1536 delivers dramatic cycle time reductions on symmetrical and multi-feature turned parts compared to conventional single-spindle turning center approaches.
The Delta 1536's configuration places two main spindles — each 3,500 RPM, 22 kW — in a horizontal opposed arrangement. Each spindle is served by its own dedicated upper turret with 12 VDI40 live tool stations and 6,000 RPM live tool speed. The machine can operate in several modes: simultaneous balanced turning (both spindles machining identical parts with both turrets cutting in unison), sequential handoff (spindle 1 machines front features, transfers to spindle 2 for back features), or cross-turret operation (each turret serves the opposite spindle for complex cycle optimization). This flexibility allows experienced process engineers to achieve cycle times that approach the theoretical minimum for a given part geometry.
With a 36 mm bar capacity and 150 mm maximum turning diameter, the Delta 1536 targets the small-to-medium turned component segment — automotive fuel system components, hydraulic fittings, connectors, and precision bushings. The machine's Italian engineering emphasizes thermal stability and structural rigidity from a heavy-duty Meehanite cast iron base, ensuring dimensional consistency over long production runs. Y-axis is available as an option on both turrets for off-center milling and drilling.
The Eurotech Delta 1536 is controlled via Fanuc 32i-B or Siemens 840D sl and is offered with integrated bar feeder packages. It competes with the Index MS22C, Traub TNL32, and Nakamura-Tome WT-150 in the twin-spindle twin-turret turning center segment, with Eurotech positioning the Delta as a precision-focused Italian alternative to the German and Japanese competition.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Twin-spindle twin-turret configuration enables simultaneous balanced machining — both spindles cutting identical parts with both turrets simultaneously — delivering cycle times that approach the theoretical minimum for symmetrical rotational parts
- Multiple cycle modes (balanced, sequential handoff, cross-turret) give process engineers flexibility to optimize complex asymmetric part sequences that a fixed twin-spindle setup cannot accommodate
- 24 total live-tool VDI40 stations across both turrets provide ample tooling for complex part families requiring multiple turning, milling, and drilling operations without tool changes mid-cycle
- Italian cast-iron construction emphasizes thermal stability and structural rigidity — critical for maintaining dimensional consistency over extended production runs without frequent offset adjustments
- Competitive pricing against German and Japanese twin-spindle alternatives provides Eurotech's precision engineering at a lower capital entry point for European and select North American shops
Limitations
- 36 mm bar capacity limits the Delta 1536 to small-diameter bar stock — shops running larger diameter bars (52 mm and above) require the Delta 1540 or a different platform
- 3,500 RPM maximum turning spindle speed is conservative for small-diameter high-speed finishing in the sub-20 mm range where 5,000+ RPM machines are preferred
- Eurotech's North American dealer network is limited, making the Delta 1536 a stronger choice for European shops or North American customers with existing Eurotech or Italian machine relationships

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Balanced cutting means both main spindles are rotating identical parts simultaneously, and both turrets are cutting simultaneously — four active cutting operations at once. In practice, the machinist or process engineer writes a program that synchronizes the two spindles and two turrets so that each tool engagement is mirrored on both sides of the machine. The result is that every chip cut produces two finished features — one on each spindle — so the effective cycle time for a single part is half the time of a single-spindle equivalent cutting the same program.
02
For parts requiring both front and back feature sets, the Delta 1536 uses a sequential handoff cycle: spindle 1 machines all front features, then transfers the partially finished part synchronously to spindle 2. Spindle 2 grips the part, and the parting tool separates it from the bar. Spindle 2 then machines all backside features while spindle 1 begins the next front-side cycle on a new bar pull. This sequential handoff mode makes the Delta 1536 equivalent to a bar-fed turning center with a sub-spindle, but with the added option of cross-turret tool engagement.
03
Cross-turret operation allows turret 1 (nominally assigned to spindle 1) to reach across and cut the part held in spindle 2, or vice versa. This is used when a specific operation benefits from a tool position or angle that the dedicated turret cannot achieve optimally. For example, a parting operation may benefit from the cross-turret approach, or a specific angled drilling operation may be more accessible from the opposing turret. Cross-turret capability requires careful collision avoidance verification in CAM or Eurotech's simulation software.
04
The Delta 1540 is the larger variant, with 40 mm bar capacity (versus 36 mm on the 1536) and a larger turning diameter envelope, targeting the next size range up in the bar-turned component market. Both machines share the twin-spindle twin-turret architecture and the same control options. The Delta 1536 is preferred for shops whose parts are consistently under 36 mm bar diameter; the Delta 1540 provides additional flexibility for the 36–40 mm bar range.
05
The Delta 1536 requires a bar feeder capable of feeding both main spindles simultaneously or in synchronized alternation. Iemca — an Italian bar feeder manufacturer and preferred Eurotech partner — provides bar feeders configured for twin-spindle lathe integration, including their Boss and GT series. LNS and Edge Technologies also offer compatible twin-spindle bar feeder systems. Bar feeder integration must be specified at order time; the machine control interface handles M-code and I/O synchronization for bar feed, bar pull, and remnant ejection cycles.
