Overview
The DN Solutions PUMA 800 LY II is the long-bed, 32-inch chuck Y-axis variant of the 700/800 platform. It combines the massive clamping force of an 813 mm (32 in) chuck with Y-axis mill-turn capability and 3,200 mm (126 in) of turning length. When your workpieces are too big for a 24-inch chuck and need off-center milled features along a 3-meter length, this is the machine.
The spindle delivers 55 kW (74 hp) with 8,076 Nm (5,957 ft-lb) of torque at a max speed of 750 RPM. The 375 mm (14.8 in) spindle bore handles through-bore work on oversized tubular components. The 750 RPM ceiling is the trade-off for the 32-inch chuck — the larger, heavier rotating assembly requires reduced speed for bearing life and safe centrifugal forces. At the large diameters this machine handles, 750 RPM still delivers productive surface speeds.
The Y-axis provides 200 mm (8 in) of off-center travel. Combined with 3,000 RPM live tooling on the 12-station turret and C-axis control, the LY II can drill bolt patterns on large flanges, mill flats on heavy castings, cut keyways on oversized shafts, and tap holes on components weighing multiple tonnes. These operations would otherwise require crane-lifting parts to a horizontal boring mill — a process that takes hours and introduces positional errors.
Z-axis travel is 3,235 mm (127 in) with 470 mm (19 in) on X. Rapids are 12 m/min on X, 10 m/min on Z, and 6 m/min on Y. At 22,500 kg (49,604 lb), the machine matches the 700 LY II in weight, sitting on the same bed and frame. Box-way construction handles the extreme cutting forces.
The FANUC 0i-TF Plus control manages the multi-axis coordination. The PUMA 800 LY II serves a very specific segment: shops processing the largest-diameter parts that demand 32-inch chuck clamping with long-bed Y-axis mill-turn capability. Large pipe, heavy castings, and oversized forgings are its natural domain. Specs sourced from DN Solutions published data.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 32-inch chuck provides maximum clamping force for oversized workpieces with Y-axis milling capability
- 200 mm Y-axis travel handles substantial off-center milling on the largest turned parts
- 8,076 Nm torque at 55 kW drives through the heaviest cuts in any material
- 375 mm spindle bore accommodates large-diameter through-bore work with milling
- 3,200 mm turning length covers long parts at 35-inch swing
- Eliminates the most expensive secondary setups — crane-lifting multi-tonne parts to a boring mill
Limitations
- 750 RPM max spindle speed is the most restrictive in the PUMA Y-axis range — strictly for large-diameter work
- 32-inch chuck tooling is expensive and less commonly available
- 22,500 kg requires heavy industrial foundations and specialized rigging
- 7.35 meter length demands substantial floor space
- Very specialized machine — only justified with consistent large-bore production volume

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Choose the 800 LY II when your parts require a 32-inch chuck for secure clamping. Both share the same spindle, bed, Y-axis, and live tooling. The 800 trades spindle speed (750 vs 1,500 RPM) for the larger chuck. If a 24-inch chuck holds your parts, the 700 LY II offers double the spindle speed.
02
Same platform — same spindle, chuck, bed length, and live tooling. The LY II adds a 200 mm Y-axis for off-center milling. If your parts only need C-axis on-center milling, the LM II saves cost. For off-center features on parts too heavy to move, the LY II is the better investment.
03
New machines run $510,000-$680,000 depending on options. The 32-inch chuck with Y-axis on the long bed is among the most expensive PUMA configurations. The cost is justified by eliminating secondary operations on the heaviest, largest-diameter mill-turn parts.
04
Yes. The Y-axis with C-axis interpolation enables face milling on large flanges. However, the 3,000 RPM live tool speed and available toolholder sizes limit the width and depth of face milling passes. For heavy face milling, a boring mill may still be more productive, but for standard flange features, the 800 LY II handles the work.
