Overview
The DN Solutions PUMA 700 M II is the standard-bed version of the PUMA 700 series — a big-bore, 24-inch chuck turning center with 900 mm (35 in) of swing and Y-axis mill-turn capability. If you need the 700's massive spindle and large-diameter capacity but your parts don't exceed 1,600 mm (63 in) in length, the M II saves floor space and cost compared to the LM II long-bed variant.
The spindle specs are identical to the LM II: 55 kW (74 hp), 8,076 Nm (5,957 ft-lb) of torque, 1,500 RPM max speed, and a 375 mm (14.8 in) through-bore. That's enough power to take aggressive roughing passes on large-diameter forgings and castings in any material — from mild steel to high-alloy nickel-base superalloys.
Z-axis travel is 1,650 mm (65 in), giving you 1,600 mm of max turning length. X-axis provides 470 mm (19 in) of cross travel, and the Y-axis adds 200 mm (8 in) for off-center milling operations. The 12-station turret runs live tools at 3,000 RPM, making this a true mill-turn center for large parts.
Rapids are 12 m/min on X and 16 m/min on Z — the standard bed gets faster Z rapids than the LM II's 10 m/min because there's less mass to move. At 16,500 kg (36,376 lb), the M II is still a heavy machine, but it's over 5,000 kg lighter than the LM II, making foundation requirements somewhat less demanding.
The machine measures 5,756 mm (227 in) long by 3,160 mm (124 in) wide by 2,800 mm (110 in) tall. Box-way construction throughout ensures rigidity during heavy cutting. The FANUC 0i-TF Plus control runs the show. For shops doing large-diameter chucking work — valve bodies, large flanges, pump housings, and heavy fittings — the 700 M II delivers 35-inch swing capability in a more compact package than the long-bed variant. Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Same massive 55 kW spindle and 8,076 Nm torque as the LM II in a shorter, lighter package
- 375 mm spindle bore passes large-diameter tubular stock for pipe and casing work
- Y-axis with 200 mm travel enables off-center milling without secondary machine setups
- 16 m/min Z-axis rapids are 60% faster than the LM II long-bed variant
- 5,500 kg lighter than the LM II, requiring less aggressive foundation preparation
- 24-inch chuck and 35-inch swing handle large valve bodies, flanges, and pump housings
Limitations
- 1,600 mm max turning length won't accommodate long shaft work — choose the LM II for longer parts
- 16,500 kg still requires industrial-grade foundations and specialized rigging
- 1,500 RPM max spindle speed limits surface speed on smaller-diameter features
- 3.16 meter machine width is substantial — check your door clearances before ordering
- High capital cost requires consistent large-part production to justify the investment

Frequently Asked Questions
01
If your longest part is under 1,600 mm (63 in), the M II saves over 5,000 kg in weight, 1.5 meters in floor length, and a significant amount on the purchase price. The spindle, chuck, Y-axis, and live tooling are identical between the two. Only choose the LM II if you genuinely need 3,200 mm of turning length.
02
The 700 M II is a significant step up: 35-inch swing vs 26-inch, 24-inch chuck vs 21-inch, 74 hp vs 60 hp, and 5,957 ft-lb torque vs 2,182 ft-lb. It also adds Y-axis capability. The 700 costs roughly 50-70% more and weighs 50% more. If your parts exceed 26 inches in diameter, the 700 is necessary.
03
With 470 mm of X-axis cross travel and the 900 mm max swing, you can bore large IDs using extended boring bars. The practical limit depends on boring bar deflection and the specific ID-to-OD ratio of your part. For very large bores, anti-vibration boring bars are recommended.
04
Yes. The A2-15 spindle nose accepts faceplates with dogs for clamping irregular workpieces that can't be held in a standard 3-jaw or 4-jaw chuck. This is common for large castings and weldments with non-cylindrical clamping surfaces.
