Overview
The DN Solutions PUMA 4100 C is the max-chuck variant of the standard-bed PUMA 4100, swinging a massive 21-inch chuck for gripping the largest workpieces the platform can accommodate. It pushes the PUMA 4100's torque to 3,280 N-m (2,419 ft-lb) with 37 kW (50 hp) at up to 1,500 RPM, targeting heavy chucking work on flanges, large housings, pipe fittings, and castings.
Max turning diameter is 550 mm (22 in) and max turning length is 1,002 mm (39 in) — slightly shorter than the 15-inch B variant's 1,042 mm because the larger chuck body takes up more of the Z envelope. Axis travels are 352 mm on X and 1,105 mm on Z, with rapids at 16/20 m/min. The 10-station turret handles standard heavy-duty tool blocks.
The machine weighs 10,450 kg (23,038 lb), about 500 kg more than the B due to the larger headstock and chuck assembly. Same 4,654 mm x 2,056 mm footprint. FANUC control. Box-way construction throughout.
The 21-inch chuck and 3,280 N-m torque combination is built for one thing: gripping and cutting large, heavy workpieces with authority. The 1,500 RPM ceiling means surface speed will be limiting on parts under about 6-inch diameter, but if you're running the 21-inch chuck, most of your work is bigger than that. At 500 mm OD, 1,500 RPM gives you 2,356 m/min surface speed — more than enough for any steel or alloy.
For shops doing heavy chucking work — facing flanges, boring large housings, OD turning large-diameter castings — the 4100 C gives you the jaw grip and torque to take heavy cuts without jaw slip or chatter. It's the workholding capacity that sells this machine, more than any other single spec.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 21-inch chuck provides massive workholding grip for large flanges, housings, and castings without jaw slip
- 3,280 N-m (2,419 ft-lb) of torque enables aggressive roughing on large-diameter parts at heavy feeds
- 50 hp spindle motor sustains high material removal rates through long roughing passes on big workpieces
- Box-way construction delivers the rigidity needed for heavy interrupted cuts on castings and forgings
- Same bed and footprint as the 4100 B — the larger chuck doesn't increase the machine's floor space requirements
- Proven PUMA 4100 platform with decades of service history and strong dealer support
Limitations
- 1,500 RPM max spindle speed limits surface speed on smaller-diameter features and finishing operations
- 1,002 mm max turning length is 40 mm shorter than the 4100 B due to the larger chuck body
- 21-inch chuck is heavy and creates more rotational inertia, slowing spindle acceleration and deceleration
- 16/20 m/min rapids are slow compared to smaller, lighter machines
- 10-station turret may feel limiting on complex multi-operation programs

Frequently Asked Questions
01
When your parts have large diameters or irregular shapes that need more jaw coverage for secure clamping. The 21-inch chuck also handles larger-bore tubular workpieces where a 15-inch chuck can't reach far enough. If your parts fit securely in 15-inch jaws, the B's higher RPM (2,000 vs 1,500) and lighter chuck give you better cycle times.
02
The spindle nose and bearing assembly are configured for the specific chuck size at build time. While it's theoretically possible to change chucks, it's not a quick-swap operation and may require spindle nose adapter changes. Most shops buy the variant that matches their primary work and use different jaws for variety.
03
The 5100 B swings 650 mm (26 in) vs the 4100 C's 550 mm (22 in), has 45 kW vs 37 kW spindle power, and 4,041 N-m vs 3,280 N-m torque — but both run 21-inch chucks. If you need the larger swing and more torque, step up to the 5100. If 22-inch swing is enough, the 4100 C saves money and weight.
04
The 21-inch chuck configuration has a large spindle bore, but the exact dimension depends on the specific build. Contact your DN Solutions dealer for the bore specification on the C variant. For large-bore pass-through work, the PUMA 700 or 800 series offers even larger bores.
