Overview
The DMG Mori CTX 750 is the heavy-hitter at the top of the CTX universal turning lineup, engineered for shops that routinely swing large-diameter workpieces in demanding materials. With a 700 mm (27.6 in) maximum turning diameter, 2,050 mm (80.7 in) turning length, and a 44 kW (59 hp) spindle delivering 2,310 Nm (1,704 ft-lb) of torque, the CTX 750 handles the kind of large forging, casting, and shaft work that sends smaller machines to the hospital.
The A2-11 spindle nose with standard 18-inch (457 mm) chuck grabs workpieces that would overhang anything smaller. Bar capacity is 127 mm (5.0 in), large enough for hydraulic cylinder rod stock and heavy-wall tubing. The spindle tops out at 2,000 RPM, trading speed for the massive torque needed to take heavy cuts in steel, stainless, Inconel, and Duplex without deflection or chatter.
Milling capability comes through the BMT 65 turret spinning driven tools at up to 10,000 RPM with 40 Nm of continuous torque. That is enough to mill flats, drill cross-holes, cut keyways, and tap large-diameter holes without unclamping the part. The Y-axis provides plus/minus 80 mm of travel for off-center features. The C-axis with 0.001-degree indexing handles angular positioning for complex milled geometries.
Box guideways on all axes and a machine weight of 12,500 kg (27,558 lb) provide the mass and damping characteristics that heavy-duty turning demands. The thermal compensation system includes cooled ball screws, spindle temperature management, and bed temperature control. A programmable servo-driven tailstock with MT6 taper supports long workpieces during turning operations.
The CTX 750 runs CELOS with Siemens 840D sl underneath. Pricing runs 20,000-50,000 depending on configuration. Used units from 2014-2020 trade between 60,000 and 80,000. Competitors include the Mazak QT-500, Okuma LB45 II, and purpose-built large-frame lathes from European builders.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2,310 Nm spindle torque and 44 kW power provide brute force for aggressive roughing on large-diameter parts in tough materials
- 700 mm turning diameter and 2,050 mm turning length handle workpieces exceeding the capacity of most universal turning centers
- 127 mm bar capacity accommodates large-diameter bar stock, hydraulic cylinder rod, and heavy-wall tubing
- 12,500 kg machine mass with box guideways on all axes delivers vibration damping for large-diameter interrupted cuts
- BMT 65 turret with 10,000 RPM driven tools enables mill-turn operations on large parts, eliminating costly second operations
- Programmable servo-driven tailstock with MT6 taper provides rigid support for long workpieces and fast setup changes
Limitations
- 2,000 RPM max spindle speed limits productivity on small-diameter parts
- Starting at 20K and exceeding 50K, it is a major capital investment requiring large-part work to justify
- 12,500 kg weight demands a reinforced concrete foundation and significant rigging expense
- Slower rapid traverse rates (24/20 m/min) add non-cutting time compared to mid-size lathes
- DMG Mori premium service costs multiply on a machine this size

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A new CTX 750 starts around 20,000. Fully configured, pricing reaches 00,000-50,000. Used machines from 2014-2020 sell between 60,000 and 80,000.
02
The CTX 750 has 700 mm turning diameter (vs 550 mm), 2,050 mm turning length (vs 1,405 mm), 44 kW spindle (vs 37 kW), 2,310 Nm torque (vs 1,200 Nm), 127 mm bar capacity (vs 102 mm), and 18-inch chuck (vs 15-inch).
03
At 12,500 kg, reinforced concrete at least 300 mm thick is required. Consult DMG Mori installation team before delivery.
04
Yes. The BMT 65 turret spins driven tools at 10,000 RPM with 40 Nm torque. Combined with Y-axis and C-axis, it handles flats, keyways, cross-holes, and pockets.
05
Both are large-frame turning centers. DMG Mori has BMT turret advantage and thermal compensation. Mazak offers MAZATROL programming and generally better North American service.
